Sara Liew is an Equity Director and heads the Corporate Department of Central Chambers Law Corporation. She has over 25 years of experience in the legal industry, during which she has acted in the capacity of in-house legal and head of legal of EDB Investments Pte Ltd. (‘EDBI’), the investment arm of the Singapore Economic Development Board (‘EDB’). During her time at EDB and EDBI, she advised on the structuring and negotiating of strategic joint ventures (including domestic and cross-border transactions). Sarah was also chiefly involved in seed and venture capital investments and the legal aspects of fund management.
Her experience in corporate practice also includes private equity investments, venture capital work, corporate restructuring, mergers and acquisitions and general corporate agreements. She was involved in the drafting of the initial framework and agreements for schemes organised by the National Research Foundation (‘NRF’), including their Technology Incubator Scheme, the Early Stage Venture Fund Scheme and the Global Entrepreneurs Executive Scheme. Along with her work in representing NRF, Sara has also worked with numerous incubatee companies of NUS Enterprise as a mentor. Sara has also worked with various other incubators and VC companies in the industry.
In this session titled “Negotiating with Investors”, we will be discussing some common issues and terms faced by start-ups when negotiating their investment deals with VCs and other investors.
